The MSV offers a series of annual awards and competitions to its members. Auditions are generally held at the rooms of The Victorian Music Examinations Board (AMEB), 259 Auburn Road, Hawthorn; candidates can provide their own accompanist or, for most competitions, may request the use the Society's official accompanist for which a fee is charged. Winners are invited to perform in prize winners concerts and may be called upon to give a recital for Society members. Previous winners are prohibited to enter the same section again and the Society reserves the right to cancel a section. Decisions made by adjudicators are final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding competition outcomes.
12 Years and Under Awards

2012
12 Years and Under Awards are open to MSV members aged 12 years and under as of December 31, 2010.
Competitors may enter the 12 and Under OR 15 and Under Awards.
These Awards comprise the following three awards:
* DES STEVENSON AWARD for Piano
* FRANK BIESTERFELDT AWARD for Woodwind
*MSV AWARD for Brass
* STELLA NEMET AWARD for Strings
Certificates will be awarded each category.
Up to two Encouragement awards may be selected in each category
Closing date for entries is Thursday April 14th, 2011
Auditions will be held on May 1st and a Prize Winners concert on May 22nd, 2011.
Entry Fee: $7.00.

15 Years and Under Awards (to be updated)

15 Years and Under Awards are open to MSV members aged 15 years and under as of December 31, 2010.
These Awards comprise the following three awards:
* EDA SCHURMANN AWARD for Piano
* KEK-TJIANG LIM AWARD for Strings
*MSV AWARD for Woodwind
*MSV AWARD for Brass
Closing date for entries is Thursday April 14th, 2011
Auditions will be held on May 1st and a Prize Winners concert on May 22nd, 2011.
Prizes in each section:
$100 first, $70 second, $50 third.
Entry Fee: $10.00
Fee for official accompanist: $10.00

18 Years and Under Awards (to be updated)
18 Years and Under Awards are open to MSV members aged 18 years and under as of December 31, 2010.
These Awards comprise the following three awards:
* NEHAMA PATKIN MEMORIAL AWARD for Piano
* HERBERT DAVIS MEMORIAL AWARD for Wind and Brass
* WILLSHER MEMORIAL AWARD for Strings (donated by the Malvern Centre).
Prizes in each section:
$200 first, $150 second, $100 third.
Auditions will be held on August 7th and Winners will perform at District Centres as part of the 150th Anniversary celebrations

Fee for official accompanist: $10.00

Chamber Music Award
May 20th, 2012.
The MSV Chamber Music Award (OLWYN GAME MEMORIAL AWARD) is open to musicians aged 23 years and under as of December 31, 2011. The Award is open to chamber groups comprising up to six players of any instrumental combination. At least one musician in the group must be a member of the Musical Society of Victoria. The winning chamber music ensemble will be selected at a public concert.
The OLWYN GAME MEMORIAL AWARD is a prize of $500. An encouragement award may
be offered at $300.
A selected group will be offered a Masterclass with a member of the Firebird Trio
Entry Fee: $10.00 per musician.

Armstead Singing Awards (to be updated)
, 2012
MSV Armstead Awards are open to MSV members aged between 19 and 30 years as of December 31, 2011.
Previous winners of the Armstead Award will be eligible to re-enter the competition.
One year must elapse before re-entering the competition.
The competition is conducted in two stages:
Stage 1: a preliminary audition at which six finalists will be selected.
Stage 2: selected finalists will compete in a public concert for the ARMSTEAD SINGING AWARD.
The following three prizes will be awarded:
$1000 first, $350 second, $150 third.
The Armstead Singing Award winner is eligible to compete with the winners of the Hephzibah Menuhin Memorial Award for the John Tallis / 3MBS FM Victorian Young Performer Award, the winner of which will be invited to compete in the MBS Fine Music Australia Young Performer Award.
Entry Fee: $20.00
An official accompanist will be available to entrants on the day of the audition, free of charge.

Hephzibah Menuhin Memorial Awards (to be updated)
2012.
Hephzibah Menuhin Memorial Awards are open to musicians under the age of 25 years as of December 31, 2011. Entrants must have been financial members of the MSV from July 1.
Pprevious winners of the Hephzibah Menuhin Award will be eligible to re-enter the same section in the competition. One year must elapse before re-entering the competition.
This competition is conducted in two stages:
Stage 1:August 13/14, 2011: a preliminary audition at which three finalists will be selected from three sections:
wind and brass, strings, piano.
Stage 2: September 18th, 2011: the nine finalists selected in Stage 1 will compete in a public concert at St Johns SOUTHGATE
The following three prizes will be awarded in each section:
$750 first, $500 second, $250 third.
Winners of first prize in each section are eligible to compete with the winner of the MSV Armstead Singing Award for the John Tallis / 3MBS FM Victorian Young Performer Award, at a date to be announced. The winner of this will be invited to compete in the MSB Fine Music Australia Young Performer Award - date to be announced
Entry fee: $25.00.
Entrants are required to provide their own accompanists.

The concert will be broadcast and all performers will receive a recording of their performance.
The winner will be eligible to compete in the Fine Music Australia Young Performer Award.

Fine Music Australia Young Performer Award (to be updated)
The John Tallis / 3MBS FM Victorian Young Performer Award will compete with finalists from other Australian states for this award. The winner will receive up to $10,000 towards travel and study costs, presented by the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust.
If this performance is held interstate, all costs will be met by Fine Music Australia.

Overseas Scholarships
These scholarships are open to members of the Society who intend to prusue a career in performance.
In order to qualify, students must have been members continuoulsy for the last five years; have a confirmed place at an overseas institution or with a teacher that will last at least three months; and have a reasonable expectation of a professional career.
There are two scholarships, each being awarded once every two years.
2011: The Lim Koon Yaw Overseas Scholarship

David Henkels Composition Award
This award will next be offered in 2013
This award is offered every two years to a composer under the age of thirty years. The award is worth $1000 and the winning entry will receive a public performance which may be broadcast.
