Awards
The Musical Society of Victoria offers a number of annual awards in addition to performance opportunities in District Centres.

12 YEARS AND UNDER AWARDS
Awards are offered in the disciplines of Piano, Strings and Winds
Auditions are held “examination style” with an adjudicator who writes an individual report for
each student.
Prizes are: 1st - $150, 2nd - $100, 3rd - $75
First and second prizewinners play in a public concert.
Entry Requirements:​

Two works of contrasting nature must be performed. These must be by different composers and in different styles e.g. Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Modern

Entrants are expected to be able to perform at Grade 3 AMEB or above.

The recital must not exceed 10 minutes. You may be stopped after 10 minutes.

Entrants must be 12 years and under as at 31 December of the award year.

Previous first prize winners are ineligible to enter.
15 YEARS AND UNDER AWARDS
Awards are offered in the disciplines of Piano, Strings and Winds

18 YEARS AND UNDER AWARDS
Awards are offered in the disciplines of Piano, Strings, Winds and Voice
Auditions are held “examination style” with an adjudicator who writes an individual report for
each student.
Prizes are: 1st - $300, 2nd - $200, 3rd - $100
All prizewinners play in a public concert.
Entry Requirements:
For Piano, Strings and Winds

Two works of contrasting nature must be performed. These must be by different composers and in different styles e.g. Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Modern.

Entrants are expected to be able to perform at Grade 7 AMEB or above.
For Voice:​

Two songs of contrasting style to be selected from the areas of: Musical Comedy/Light Opera, Folk Song, Art Song/Lied, or Ballad.

Accompaniment is to be Piano only.
For All:

The recital must not exceed 15 minutes. You may be stopped after 15 minutes.

Entrants must be 18 years and under as at 31 December of the award year.

Previous first prize winners are ineligible to enter.
CHAMBER MUSIC AWARD
Chamber groups of up to eight players are heard in a public concert by an adjudicator who writes an individual report for each group.
Prizes are: 1st - $1000, 2nd - $500,
Entry Requirements:​

Each group is requested to present a recital of no more than 20 minutes, including at least two works from different periods and styles, rather than two movements of one work.

Entrants must be 23 years and under as at 31 December of the award year.

Previous winning ensembles are ineligible to enter.
ARMSTEAD SINGING AWARD
Singers are heard in a public concert by an adjudicator who writes an individual report for each singer.
Prizes are: 1st - $1500, 2nd - $1000, 3rd - $500
The winner continues to participate in 3MBS FM Young Performer of the Year.
Entry Requirements:​

Each singer is required to perform one Art song and one from Opera.

Entrants must be between 18 years and 30 years as at 31 December of the award year.

Previous first prize winners are ineligible to enter.
HEPHZIBAH MENUHIN MEMORIAL AWARDS
Awards are in the fields of Piano, Strings and Winds
Auditions are held in private with an adjudicator who writes an individual report for each student.
Three finalists from each section will perform in a public concert to determine the place
winners.
Prizes are: 1st - $1500, 2nd - $1000, 3rd - $500
The first prize winner in each section will continue to participate in the 3mbs Young
Performer Award.
Entry Requirements:​

For auditions, three works, two of which represent distinctly different periods, and styles, and a third work of the candidate’s choice and styles. One should be a slow movement in order to demonstrate musical sensitivity in contrast to technical brilliance.

For final, two contrasting works from the audition programme, representing distinctly different periods and styles.

Entrants must be 25 years and under as at 31 December of the award year.

Previous first prize winners are ineligible to enter.
DAVID HENKELS COMPOSITIONS AWARD
Composers are required to submit a score, a CD or audio file of the completed work, and a brief curriculum vitae.
Prizes are: $1500 for the winner and $500 for the ensemble to perform in a public concert
Entry Requirements:​

Composers must submit a work of up to 15 minutes for any combination of instruments and/or voice in any style.

Composers must be 25 years and under as at 31 December of the award year.
SPECIAL PROJECT AWARD
This is open to current members of the Musical Society of Victoria who wish to pursue an
avenue of interest that will further their musical career.
Entrants must present a detailed submission and up to $1000 may be awarded at the
discretion of the Committee.
Entry Requirements:​

Applicants must be 25 years or under (instrumentalists) or 30 years or under (singers) as at 31 December of the award year.

Applicants must be an Australian citizen.
-
Applicants must have a definitive plan to study with a recognised teacher or institution for a minimum of three months
